The People’s Bank of China is to issue World Heritage—Quanzhou: Emporium of the World in Song-Yuan China Gold and Silver Commemorative Coins on July 25, 2022. The set consists of 4 coins, including 2 gold coins and 2 silver coins. All coins are legal tender of the People’s Republic of China.
I. Design of the Coins
i. Obverse Design
Each coin of this set bears the common observe design featuring the national emblem of the PRC, the title of PRC and the year date.
ii. Reverse Design
The 150g round commemorative gold coin depicts the Statue of Mazu in the Tianhou Temple, with a decorative design of the Temple’s main hall, water patterns, part of Quanzhou’s coastline in the Song-Yuan period, the words “Quanzhou: Emporium of the World in Song-Yuan China” in Chinese and the face value.
The 8g round commemorative gold coin depicts the Jiuri Mountain Wind-Praying Inscriptions, a Quanzhou merchant boat of the Song Dynasty, adorned with auspicious clouds and sea waves, the words “Quanzhou: Emporium of the World in Song-Yuan China” in Chinese and the face value.
The 500g round commemorative silver coin depicts the Luoyang Bridge, the two pagodas of the Kaiyuan Temple, Erythrina flowers, with boat patterns in the background, the words “Quanzhou: Emporium of the World in Song-Yuan China” in Chinese and the face value.
The 30g round commemorative silver coin depicts the Statue of Lao Tze with trees and mountains in the background, the words “Quanzhou: Emporium of the World in Song-Yuan China” in Chinese and the face value.
II. Specification and Mintage of the Coins
The 150g round commemorative gold coin, is proof coin, has diameter of 60 mm, face value of 2,000 yuan, and contains 150 grams of 99.9% pure gold. The maximum mintage is 1,000 pieces.
The 8g round commemorative gold coin, is proof coin, has diameter of 22 mm, face value of 100 yuan, and contains 8 grams of 99.9% pure gold. The maximum mintage is 10,000 pieces.
The 500g round commemorative silver coin, is proof coin, has diameter of 90 mm, face value of 150 yuan, and contains 500 grams of 99.9% pure silver. The maximum mintage is 3,000 pieces.
The 30g round commemorative silver coin, is proof coin, has diameter of 40 mm, face value of 10 yuan, and contains 30 grams of 99.9% pure silver. The maximum mintage is 20,000 pieces.
III. Mint and Distribution
