Announcement of the People’s Bank of China (2020) No. 11



The People’s Bank of China is to issue a set of The 600th Anniversary of the Forbidden City gold and silver commemorative coins on 3rd August, 2020. The set consists of 7 coins, including two gold coins and five silver coins. All of them are the legal-tendered coins of the People’s Republic of China.



  1. Design of the Coins



  1. Obverse Design



Each coin in the set bears the common obverse design of National Emblem of the People’s Republic of China, Country name, and the year of issue.



  1. Reverse Design



All seven coins in the set are printed “The 600th Anniversary of the Forbidden City” in Chinese and denominations, and carrying the following designs:



The 1kg round gold coin depicts pattern of an aerial view of the Forbidden City with auspicious clouds.



The 3g round gold coin depicts a bronze crane, the imperial roof decoration Da Wen, with a rising sun and auspicious clouds.



The 2kg round silver coin depicts the interior of the Hall of Supreme Harmony (Taihe Dian) and decorative patterns.



The 15g rectangular silver coin depicts pattern of the Hall of Supreme Harmony (Taihe Dian), adorned with auspicious clouds and the foundation platform.



The 15g rectangular silver coin depicts pattern of the Hall of Central Harmony (Zhonghe Dian), adorned with auspicious clouds and the foundation platform.



The 15g rectangular silver coin depicts pattern of the Hall of Preserving Harmony (Baohe Dian), adorned with auspicious clouds and the foundation platform.



The 5g round silver coin depicts a bronze Qilin in an open palace door, with decorative patterns under its feet.



  1. Specifications and Mintage of the Coins



The 1kg round gold coin, is proof coin, has diameter of 90mm, face value of 10000 yuan, 99.9% of fineness and contains 1 kilogram of pure gold. The maximum mintage is 100 pieces.



The 3g round gold coin, is proof coin, has diameter of 18mm, face value of 50 yuan, 99.9% of fineness and contains 3 grams of pure gold. The maximum mintage is 60000 pieces.



The 2kg round silver coin, is proof coin, has diameter of 130mm, face value of 600 yuan, 99.9% of fineness and contains 2 kilograms of pure silver. The maximum mintage is 3000 pieces.



The 15g rectangular silver coin, is proof coin, has dimension of 32mm * 20mm, face value of 5 yuan, 99.9% of fineness and contains 15 grams of pure silver. The maximum mintage is 3 * 300000 pieces.



The 5g round silver coin, is proof coin, has diameter of 22mm, face value of 2 yuan, 99.9% of fineness and contains 5 grams of pure silver. The maximum mintage is 2000000 pieces.
